C2Flight: A Closed-Loop Co-Simulation Framework for Early-Stage Evaluation of Heterogeneous UAV Computing Systems

Summary

This paper presents C2Flight, a closed-loop co-simulation framework that enables early-stage evaluation of heterogeneous UAV computing systems by integrating hardware models with physical hardware through a unified node interface. The framework captures the combined effects of buffering, activation, resource sharing, communication, and local timing on closed-loop flight behavior, validated against onboard and wireless offboard physical computing pipelines. Two case studies demonstrate its utility in exploring deployment and accelerator bit-width choices before full-system integration.
