Meta Partners with Shanghai-Based Fourier Intelligence to Develop Humanoid Robot Prototype Max

Meta collaborated with Shanghai-based Fourier Intelligence to create a humanoid robot prototype named Max within three months, leveraging Fourier's mature GR series hardware platform. The initial version stands approximately 1.5 meters tall, weighs 48 kilograms, and uses an NVIDIA Jetson Thor chip for core computing. Designed as the physical embodiment of Meta's AI agent Muse, Max features an expressive screen face, speakers, dexterous hands, and is intended for home interaction tasks such as fetching objects and natural conversation. A second version (Max2) is already in development with upgrades including improved manipulator precision, stair-climbing sensors, and a projector. Meta has hired engineers in Shanghai and Shenzhen to prepare the project for future mass production but confirms that current prototypes are for internal research only, with no timeline for consumer release.
