Intrinsic Core Released
Intrinsic Core Released
During ROSCon, the Intrinsic team released Intrinsic Core, an open-source, hardware-agnostic real-time control framework and SDK for industrial robotics. The release includes foundational capabilities used in manufacturing deployments, interoperability with ROS via standard workspaces and message definitions, and a pre-configured setup featuring a real-time control framework, pose estimation, motion and grasp planning, simulation tools, and a native digital twin. A reference solution called the Open Machine Tending Solution (OMTS) provides a starting point for CNC machine tending. Community members have already built variations using local inference and ARM support to perform tasks like picking up car wheels with custom grippers.

A couple of weeks ago during ROSCon, we released Intrinsic Core (GitHub - intrinsic-ai/intrinsic-core: Intrinsic Core™ provides an open, local runtime, SDK, and hardware agnostic, real-time control framework for industrial robotics. · GitHub), open-sourcing foundational capabilities and services from Intrinsic that we’ve been using for real-world manufacturing deployments. Intrinsic Core is interoperable with ROS via standard workspaces, message definitions, and tools, allowing developers to combine their existing ROS packages with Intrinsic capabilities.
We wanted to make it easier to prototype manufacturing workcells. It’s a pre-configured setup containing:
- A hardware-agnostic, real-time control framework, delivering fast, sensor-based feedback
- Pose estimation, motion planning, and grasp planning capabilities
- Simulation tools and a native digital twin
- A reference solution called the Open Machine Tending Solution (OMTS), giving developers a ready-made starting point for real-world CNC machine tending.
The coolest part since releasing this has been watching what people are already doing with it. We’ve seen community members build variations on OMTS that are picking up and inserting car wheels with a custom gripper and larger robot. It’s exciting to see people jumping in and demonstrating this with local inference and ARM support.
As a longtime contributor to open source robotics, I’m excited to see what else we’ll build together - and the solutions made possible by collaborating in the open!
